Sylvie Djacbou Deugoue
Sylvie Djacbou Deugoue (she/her) is a Cameroonian policy advocate. She describes a childhood living in peace and harmony with nature. In her work, she tries to reconcile economic growth with sustainable development, and campaigns and advocates for stronger climate policies in the Congo Basin. She mainly focuses on community outreach, corporate sustainability, policy analysis, and Forest communities' land rights and well-being as well as protecting Congo Basin forest. She believes forest communities and grassroots movements are key actors in solving climate crises.
She's passionate about motivating youth and the underprivileged to believe in themselves and develop their leadership capacities. By doing so, they can innovate and bring sustainable change, create their own job, and succeed properly. She has a special focus on girls' and women's education in Africa and the rest of the world.
Sylvie is the Founder and Executive President of Youth In Action Association (YouAct) and features as an Aspen New Voices Senior Fellow. She has spent over 10 years at Greenpeace Africa as Forest Campaigner and now act as Congo Basin Advisor for the Packard Foundation.
Sylvie holds Masters Degrees in Industrial Biochemistry, Water & Sanitation, Sustainable Development & Governance, and Environmental Health Science; respectively from the University of Yaounde I, cheikh Anta Diop and Versailles Saint-Quentin-en-Yveline. She is currently pursuing a Ph.D in Sustainable economic growth.
