U.S. Election Results: Our Fight for Gender Justice is More Urgent Than Ever
With the recent results of the U.S. election, we are confronted with a challenging reality: a leader whose policies raise serious concerns about the health of democracy, bodily autonomy, individual rights, and climate action. This outcome reinforces the critical importance of our work to uphold and protect fundamental freedoms and advocate for the changes needed in our communities and beyond.
The truth is, the U.S. election has direct consequences for women, girls, and all historically marginalized communities around the globe. For four years, the prior Republican administration rolled back reproductive rights and the rights of immigrants, LGBTQI people, people of color, and more. They exported deadly anti-choice policy around the globe by expanding the global gag rule.
“Our fight continues, and it is more critical than ever. This outcome intensifies the urgency of our gender justice work” said PeiYao Chen, President and CEO of Global Fund for Women.
At Global Fund for Women, we believe that women’s political empowerment and equal participation are essential building blocks for gender justice, along with the right to live free from violence and discrimination, to have full control over their bodies, and to advance climate and racial justice. We have provided financial support to advance feminist leaders’ civic and political participation across the globe—in Afghanistan, Bulgaria, Cambodia, Fiji, Ghana, and more.
“For over 35 years Global Fund for Women has been standing up with women, girls, and historically marginalized groups everywhere as they fight for justice and equality. Today, we double down on this work, more determined than ever to make change,” said Global Fund for Women’s President and CEO PeiYao Chen.
