GLOBAL FUND FOR WOMEN INTRODUCES A CAMPAIGN TO AMPLIFY THE VOICES OF ACTIVISTS CHANGING THE WORLD
SAN FRANCISCO, CA (March 7, 2019) – Today, rising nationalism, fundamentalism, racism, militarism, and the current political climate make this a fragile moment for the rights of women, girls, and gender non-conforming people around the world. That’s why on International Women’s Day, Global Fund for Women, a leading foundation for gender equality, is launching a social campaign – “Amplify Her Voice” – to raise the profile of activists standing up and demanding rights and justice in their own communities.
Global Fund for Women supported-activists have the knowledge, the drive, and the plans, but they need a platform to raise their voices and be heard by the world in order to raise awareness, support, and critical means. So, we partnered with celebrities and influencers who have large social media followings to hand over their voice to a Global Fund for Women activist.
Ashley Judd, Eva Longoria, Karlie Kloss, Craig Newmark and many more leaders, CEOs, and influencers will be kicking off the campaign on Thursday, March 7th by announcing that they will be amplifying an activist’s voice the next day – International Women’s Day. Anyone can participate in the campaign by simply donating to Global Fund for Women. In return, individuals will be given a post featuring an activist that they can upload to their own social media channels.
“It’s important that we support women globally who are fighting for a better future for themselves, their families, and their communities. In doing so, we’re building a more equitable society for all,” said Craig Newmark, founder of craigslist.org and Craig Newmark Philanthropies.
The twelve activists featured in the campaign come from Argentina, Bangladesh, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mali, Mexico, Nepal, Palestine and Uganda. From providing bicycles for girls to attend school, to overturning the child marriage law, to increasing women’s representation in politics and more, these activists are actively campaigning to make systemic changes that protect and expand women’s rights.
“I am endlessly inspired by the resilience and impact of women and girl activists globally; their courage is what makes me wake up every morning ready to work for gender equality. When we amplify their voices, support them and work with them, together, we can change our world,” said Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of Global Fund for Women To learn more about “Amplify Her Voice” visit invest.globalfundforwomen.org.
