Global Fund for Women President and CEO Musimbi Kanyoro to Retire in 2019
Dr. Musimbi Kanyoro, the President and CEO of Global Fund for Women, will retire in June 2019. The Board has initiated a search for her successor.
Global Fund for Women has made noteworthy strides under Dr. Kanyoro’s seven years of leadership. In addition to significant growth in revenue, deepened expertise in measuring the impact of women’s movements, and an organizational re-brand, Global Fund for Women made a brave move to merge with the International Museum of Women, a digital advocacy organization. The merger fueled Global Fund for Women’s increased impact in campaigns and expanded use of media such as film for advocacy. Under Dr. Kanyoro’s leadership, Global Fund for Women reached $150 million of total grants distributed, increased grant size, and started to give multiyear grants.
Today, thanks to Dr. Kanyoro’s commitment, Global Fund for Women is in a position of strength and stability, helping to fulfill our promise to get money and attention where it is most needed in the fight for gender equality.
“I express my gratitude for the many milestones we have achieved together during my tenure at Global Fund for Women,” Dr. Kanyoro said. “I am excited for Global Fund for Women to welcome its next leader. I know that what we do at this moment to support women’s movements is vital for future generations. I count on your continued passion and support for women and girls who are building movements and leading change in their communities.”
