GLOBAL FUND FOR WOMEN LAUNCHES DETERMINED CAMPAIGN, NEW  BRAND TO ADVANCE GLOBAL AGENDA FOR GENDER EQUALITY

With stories and portraits of 20 women, Determined raises awareness of women’s human rights issues

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – October 14, 2015 – As part of the reveal of a new brand and vision for 2020, Global Fund for Women today launched Determined, an online campaign featuring the stories of women and girls standing up for their rights around the world. Determined uses powerful voices and portraits to elevate critical issues of women’s human rights, including domestic violence, economic empowerment, and child marriage. The launch of the brand and campaign signal Global Fund for Women’s intention to increase funding, visibility and momentum for women’s rights, capitalizing on bold UN commitments to advance gender equality in the newly-launched Sustainable Development Goals.

The Determined campaign highlights the work of Global Fund for Women’s network of grassroots, women-led groups to advance women’s rights in their own communities. It features women like 16-year-old Maria Fernanda, who works to empower girls and to combat teen pregnancy in Nicaragua; Asipa, who stands up for the rights of women with disabilities in Kyrgyzstan; and Swastika, who advocates for transgender women in Nepal.

“Our new campaign, brand, and strategic plan commit us to scaling up resources, collaboration, and awareness to make global gender equality a reality,” said Musimbi Kanyoro, President and CEO of Global Fund for Women. As part of the new strategy, the public foundation is intensifying its focus on public awareness-raising, increasing its fundraising and grantmaking goals, and focusing on supporting grass-roots movements for women’s rights. “To make the commitments made to women’s rights in the Sustainable Development Goals a reality, we need more money and attention for local organizations and activists,” said Kanyoro. “We need to invest in work to shift laws, power, and attitudes all over the world. With attacks against women’s human rights defenders increasing, and rising fundamentalisms eroding women’s rights, it’s a critical time to make sure we accelerate progress, rather than lose ground.”

The launch of the Determined campaign coincides with the reveal of Global Fund for Women’s new brand and website. With a refreshed logo and messaging, Global Fund for Women is refreshing its vision, remaining true to its identity as a bold women’s fund, and embarking on a path to realize its aspirational goal for the future: to ensure that every woman and girl is strong, safe, powerful, and heard. No exceptions.

As part of the Determined campaign, Global Fund for Women is calling on women, men, girls, and boys around the world to join its network of champions for gender equality, and to add their voices to the online conversation using #Determined.

Global Fund for Women’s New Strategic Goals

As part of the launch, Global Fund for Women has announced its 2020 strategic goals. These goals form its commitment to accelerating the Sustainable Development Goal for gender equality. By 2020, Global Fund for Women will:

  • Raise $25 million a year to advance global gender equality;
  • Strengthen global movements for women’s human rights through grants, networking, and support;
  • Extend influence and reach, engaging 2 million annually in awareness, education, and action for women’s rights; and
  • Generate $50 million in new resources for grass-roots women’s rights through high-impact strategic alliances.
